Sylvania's History
Sylvania, Ohio was founded in 1833 by settlers drawn to its fertile land and natural springs. Its name comes from the Latin word sylva, meaning woods, reflecting the dense forests that once covered the area.

Initially a small farm community, the estimated population in 1900 was around 1,500.

Sylvania passed 10,000 residents in the early 1960's as suburban development accelerated.

Even in the late 1970's though, there was little development west of McCord or King Roads.
