We are not sure why Fisher Investments hates annuities. But it is clear they are not a fan. They call buying an annuity a "blunder". One of thirteen blunders they want you to avoid.
At one time Mr. Fisher even had a TV commercial where he said he'd rather go to hell than sell you an annuity.
Whenever anyone says "never", we have to question their intent.
Marketing ploy? Because it doesn't fit their "business model"?
College and think tank academics, whose field of work is retirement income planning, repeatedly argue for the use of annuities in some situations. We have personally heard them speak and we read their new research.
Mr. Fisher doesn't mention in their commercials that only annuities can guarantee a lifetime income.
One last thing to consider. Words can be manipulated to make them imply one thing, when they really don't mean that at all.
Fisher Investment television commercials state that "they do better when you (the client) do better". Makes it sound like you both share the good times and the bad times. And there are occasional bad times with the stocks and bonds they sell.
What their statement really means, is that they make more money when your account goes up, and they make less money when your account goes down in value.
You may lose $40,000 in account value and they might lose $200 in management fees that year.
